North West Nelson Field trip photo

A surprisingly wide variety of Late Cretaceous-Miocene geological units are exposed in NW Nelson, New Zealand. Outcrops represent age-equivalent source and reservoir rock intervals of Taranaki Basin, rocks that are not exposed anywhere else in the basin. Outcrops examined on this three day field trip provide important insights to depositional styles, and a guide to interpreting seismic and electric log facies.
