Great South Basin
Outcrop analogues for mid Cretaceous-Tertiary source and reservoir facies in the Great South Basin, New Zealand
The Great South Basin offers potential for giant hydrocarbon fields. Outcrops range in age from mid Cretaceous to Quaternary, that are exposed in the adjacent Otago region of the south-eatern South Island offer the closest analogues of many of the rock types in the prospective offshore basin. This two-three day field trip can be run in conjunction with a one day Great South Basin technical workshop.
