Massey, C., Leith, K., Robinson, T.R. et al. (2025) What controlled the occurrence of more than 116,000 human-mapped landslides triggered by Cyclone Gabrielle, New Zealand?(external link) Landslides 22, 3953–3972.

Using an extract of 116, 655 landslides from the >160,000 landslides contained in Version 1.0 of the Cyclone Gabrielle Landslide Inventory, this paper outlines the relationship between the distribution of landslides, their susceptibility factors (e.g., slope angle, land cover type), and hydrological forcing factors (e.g. rainfall). The results show that rain is one of the main controlling factors on landslide probability, but the relationship is complex, as at high to very high rainfall levels other landslide susceptibility factors become more important.

This document provides a guide for landslide and risk scientists communicating data, products, tools and information with users and decision-makers. This guidance could be used for deciding how to communicate landslide products and information effectively with users. This guidance was developed for use in Aotearoa New Zealand, but elements could also be applied to communication elsewhere.
