Matt HarrisPaleoclimate and Ice Core Scientist

Biography
I use ice cores - their physical characteristics, trapped chemical impurities, and the stable oxygen isotopes of past precipitation - to document climate and environmental changes in Antarctica. The fate of the Antarctic continent and the surrounding Southern Ocean affects people living in NZ and around the globe directly (through sea level rise) and indirectly (through shifts in sea ice and climatic regimes). My work in the National Ice Core Research Facility is centred around the analysis of new and existing ice core records that inform on these critical topics.
