  • GNS Groundwater and Geothermal Database (GGW) | Version 3.1: 2016 | Output format: pdf, csv, xlsx

    Oracle database containing public datasets (National Groundwater Monitoring Programme (NGMP), air particulate matter, volcano monitoring, BOPRC geothermal surface features and the hydrochemistry of the Lake Rotorua catchment).

    A Sensor-Observation-Service (SOS) developed to access NGMP data held in GGW is accessible here and through the  Groundwater Hub. SOS service allows querying real-time sensor data and sensor data time series. The NGMP glossary, which contain technical information required to set-up the SOS service is available under the Glossary section of the Groundwater Hub. Please note that this development was funded outside of the Nationally Significant Databases funding mechanism, and is therefore managed as an “add-on” and support may be delayed. Usage is currently being recorded to support an application for full integration of the SOS service into the NGMP programme. A worked example of NGMP data  accessed through the Groundwater Hub time series feature is provided below.

These maps outline the nationally-consistent hydrogeological systems (nine types in total). Datasets used to compile these maps include New Zealand's geological database (QMAP) and regional council catchment boundaries as well as newly defined boundaries.

These maps are the first national hydrogeological assessment of New Zealand's geological database (QMAP). Datasets used to compile these maps include lithological and chrono-stratigraphic information (i.e., main rock type; geological age; and secondary rock type).

  • 3D Geological Models – Earth Beneath our Feet| Version 3.0: 2016 | Output format: jpg
    Online access to geological model datasets. 3D geological models of nine New Zealand sub-regions have been developed at GNS Science over the past ten years with the long-term aim to improve understanding of the 3D aquifer extends, fluid flows, volumes and aquifer properties.

  • Spreadsheet for automatic statistical analysis of water quality data | Version 8.0: 2015 | Output format: xls
    The "Calculator" for automatic statistical analysis of water quality data has been available for non-commercial use since the end of March 2012. This spreadsheet was designed to automatically process water quality results for many analytes in samples collected from many different sites. This spreadsheet allows for calculation of distributional parameters (e.g. median, average, standard deviation, etc.) and performance of trend tests on a per-site and per-analysis basis. The maximum number of analyses for processing is 199. Application of this tool is limited to non-commercial use

    Excel-based visualisation tool to assess the relative size of capture zone delineations using the simple methods (calculated fixed radius, uniform flow equation).
  • Groundwater capture zone GIS toolkit | Version 1.0: 2014| Output format: sph, py
    GIS-based capture zone delineation toolkit to automatically delineate well capture zone using either the calculated fixed radius or the uniform flow equation methods. This tool is available either as ready to use (ArcGIS toolbox) or as source code (Python).

Free applications

  • FULCRUM app | NGMP sample form | Version 3.0: 2016
    Mobile app. to record field measurements for groundwater samples collected as part of the National Groundwater Monitoring Programme with the Fulcrum mobile application platform to streamline field data upload to the GNS Science Geothermal and Groundwater database. Fulcrum allows you to enter data on your phone or tablet then upload the data to GNS Science when network connectivity is available. To download and install the free app, simply open the Google Play Store (Android) or iTunes store (iPad/iPhone) on your phone or tablet, search for ‘Fulcrum’ and install it. The NGMP app was recently updated to calculate purge volume and record purging field measurements. This update is consistent with the upcoming NEMS requirements.
