Update to GNS Science’s COVID-19 vaccine requirements

Monday 4 April 2022

Covid-19

Tēnā koe

On Monday 21 March, the government announced a series of changes to their traffic light system and vaccine requirements. These changes reflect the evolving approach to managing COVID in New Zealand.

One of the key changes was the removal of government vaccine mandates for most sectors. This change comes into effect at 11.59pm on Monday 4 April. In line with these changes, and following a review of our own vaccine requirements, GNS Science will no longer require staff or visitors to GNS worksites to be vaccinated.

The health, safety, and wellbeing of our staff is of the utmost importance to me. In order to provide a safe working environment, all staff and visitors must continue to comply with COVID-19 Protection Framework advice, including wearing masks, physical distancing and good hygiene. You can find more details here. If you are unwell, please stay at home.

Our labs may have their own visitor criteria, so if you intend to visit one of these facilities please ensure you understand any requirements before your visit. Similarly, our Geohazards Monitoring Centre will continue to operate 24/7 with strict access protocols to protect staff providing this essential service for New Zealanders.

Despite the level of change and uncertainty we have all been exposed to over the past two years, I’m proud of how GNS people have continued to support our partners, stakeholders, clients, and research collaborators with excellent science advice and project support.

Chief Executive, GNS Science
