GNS Science and Te Papa Tongarewa Partnership

We are excited to announce that GNS Science and Te Papa Tongarewa are continuing their 20-plus year partnership under a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
GNS Science and The Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa have worked together in a spirit of goodwill, openness, and cooperation since March 1995.
Courtney Johnston, Te Papa Tumu Whakarae Chief Executive, says it’s a relationship that is immensely valuable, not just for our organisations, but also for so many others.
“New Zealanders are fascinated by the ground below our feet, and through our partnership with GNS Science Te Pū Ao we have been able to share that kōrero with millions of people.
GNS Science have been here every step of Te Papa’s journey, and we look forward to our future partnership.

Te Papa Exhibition and Displays
As a founding research partner, GNS Science provides Te Papa with valuable scientific expertise and loans of scientific objects for exhibition displays.
Currently, GNS Science co-sponsors the Whakarūaumoko Active Land exhibition in Te Taiao Nature, and the Quake Braker Te Whakangāwari Rū exhibition. GNS is also a supporter of Bush City and contributed expertise to the development of the Blood Earth Fire exhibition alongside Toka Tū Ake EQC.
The signing of this new MoU opens up future opportunities in Te Papa’s exhibition programme and public engagement strategy to meet GNS Science’s public education goals. It also helps us manage the relationship with Te Papa and provide access and scientific expertise to the collections.
