geological mapping map

Regional scale geological maps are an important component of applied analyses of national to regional scale mineral prospectivity, landslide susceptibility and liquefaction potential amongst others.

Geological map information can used with other data to provide solutions or models of geotechnical properties, geological hazards and geological resources.

  • Geotechnical classification - Geological map units extend over wide areas and can be used to model geotechnical property variation.
  • Hazard susceptibility - identifying the exposure to geological hazards such as earthquake ground shaking, landslides, tsunami inundation, fire and flooding.
  • Resource prospectivity – identifying mineral and other resource potential based on geological map information.
