Bacterial Geothermometer

This research programme, funded by the New Zealand Marsden Fund, aims to increase precision of quantitative temperature estimates for the Last Glacial Maximum and Late Glacial Period from New Zealand by refining the local calibration between climate parameters and bacterial biomarkers preserved in lake sediments. This lipid-based paleothermometer will be used in conjunction with existing climate proxies to produce more robust, multiproxy reconstructions of past climate.
