Travel information

New Zealand is a popular travel destination and Wellington has been dubbed the coolest little capital. We very much hope that you can join us for the meeting and extend your stay to include a holiday.  With the summer weather being most settled, February is peak travel season. We recommend that you make your flight as well as hotel bookings early. There are unlikely to be last minute bargains around that time of the year. Indeed, in the previous years, there were weekends in February when no accommodation for less than NZ$500 per night could be found on short notice.

There are many alternatives for accommodation within walking distance to Te Papa including five star hotels, apartments, motels, and backpackers. We recommend you trial your preferred search engine sooner rather than later to find the most convenient option for you.

Participants from countries that do not have a visa waiver arrangement with New Zealand will need to apply for a visa before they travel to New Zealand. Visa waiver countries are found on the Immigration New Zealand website.  If you require an invitation letter for your visa application please contact the local organising committee by email to statsei10 (at) gns.cri.nz. All visitors to New Zealand need to meet standard entry requirements, including being of good health and character, having evidence of outward travel to a country they have right of entry to and sufficient funds to support their stay in New Zealand.

If you are transiting via Australia (even if it is just a 30 minute stopover) you are likely to require an Australian Transit Visa.  If you are transiting via any other country en route to New Zealand, please check the relevant visa requirements for that country.

In the meantime, we can recommend the following websites and movies to whet your appetite to join us in Wellington in February 2017:

Enjoy!
