Hear why the hydrogen future is happening now in a GNS Scientist's interview with Radio New Zealand

We're supporting the industry's growth by opening New Zealand's first green hydrogen lab.

Last week, our partners at Hiringa Energy opened Australasia's first zero-emission "green hydrogen" vehicle refuelling network. And just a few weeks prior, Air New Zealand, Toyota New Zealand, and Hiringa Energy joined forces to trial using green hydrogen at Wellington International Airport.

And at GNS, we are opening the doors of New Zealand's first green hydrogen laboratory ...but why?

We are working on reducing the cost of hydrogen. At the moment it's very expensive to produce.

Dr. Michelle Cook Materials Scientist GNS Science

"We are also working with some rural communities to see if hydrogen could be a good option for energy storage, and establish a kind of micro-grid that will keep a community warm and dry in emergencies."
