GNS Science specialists monitor a range of New Zealand volcanoes. Various agencies are notified when the volcanic alert level changes for New Zealand’s active volcanoes.

Monitoring data is continuously assessed and interpreted, coupled with knowledge gained from regular visits to the volcanoes.
