Fossils - What for?

fossils what for

Why do we study fossils?

  • Fossils are a record of ancient life. They teach us about the lifestyles of ancient species and about evolution. Trace fossils (tracks and trails), for example, can tell us about the behaviour of the animals that left them behind.
  • Fossils are also used for geological mapping, as well as petroleum and mineral exploration.
