EARTH SCIENCE BOOK A FINALIST IN MONTANA AWARDS

A book co-published by GNS Science and the Geological Society of New Zealand has been selected as a finalist in the 2009 Montana Book Awards.

A Continent on the Move is one of three finalists in the environment category of this prestigious competition. It is also eligible for the non-fiction and reader’s choice awards.

Billed as the most comprehensive publication on New Zealand geoscience in several decades, the 388-page book explores the dynamic features of the New Zealand landscape and the submerged continent of Zealandia.

It also celebrates the achievements of New Zealand geoscientists from the founding of the country to the present day. It shows how geoscience research has contributed to a safer, more prosperous, and more comfortable lifestyle for everyone.

Written in an accessible style and with more than 750 stunning photographs and illustrations, the book allows a wide range of readers to readily grasp scientific concepts.

Being named as a finalist is a tribute to the hard work and skill of Chief Editor Dr Ian Graham, of GNS Science, and the many contributing authors from across the New Zealand earth science spectrum.

The public can vote for the finalists in bookstores or online at: http://www.booksellers.co.nz/vote_form.php?award=92

A Continent on the Move is available from GNS Science for $50, plus postage.
