Auckland and Northern NZ objective
Objective Leader: Dr. Stuart Henrys
This objective aims to better our knowledge of the crustal structure beneath Auckland and adjacent sedimentary basins, to improve models of volcanic and seismic hazard, and to assist exploration for hydrocarbon and mineral resources. We will use an active-source seismic reflection-refraction experiment to image the crust, and then interpret it in terms of the broader tectonic evolution of the North Island subduction zone and back-arc system. Outcomes will be achieved by communication of results to applied resources and hazards programs via publications and conference presentations, and by direct communication with stakeholders.
