Geological Origins Research
The development of the New Zealand landmass we see today has occurred over many hundreds of millions of years.
We are researching and presenting our understanding on our geological origins in a number of different ways.
- Geological Basement - New Zealand’s foundations are between 500 and 100 million years old. These rocks occur within terranes and batholiths and understanding their origins and assembly is a major focus of our research.
- Geology of New Zealand - A summary description of New Zealand geology based on our geological map projects.
- 1:5 Million Geological Map of Zealandia - Incorporating our knowledge of geological basement terranes offshore in the largely submerged continent of Zealandia.
