Secrets of Rotomahana
GNS science has been leading an exciting project to plumb the depths of Lake Rotomahana in the Waimangu Valley, Rotorua. The survey of the freshwater hydrothermal system is one of the most detailed ever undertaken. Lake Rotomahana is the site of the Pink and White Terraces that disappeared after the Tarawera Eruption in 1886.
In March 2012 the science team are returning to the lake to find out more. Teachers can download a lesson plan to engage students with the latest investigations here.
